See, that’s what the app is perfect for.

Sounds perfect Wahhhh, I don’t wanna

Hi, this shall be my new pinned because I guess we do that now. To reiterate in case you can’t see my header, I’m Idris, I’m Egyptian and biracial (w/e), and I use they/fae. Feel free to ask me about things: I love to talk and if a subject is uncomfortable, I’ll simply state as such. Please don’t follow if you’re under 18 (and be prudent and block ‘nsft’ because I do post smut and reblog man ass).

My talk tag is 'Cipher talk’, my kind of bitchy tag for Egyptian culture is 'actually Egyptian tag’, my Julian analysis and appreciation tag is 'Bashir fan club’. My Garak tag is 'edosian melancholies’. My trek reference tag is celestial road map. Sycamores before the flood is a WIP tag; Jijoy is one of the main characters. The reanimators is also a WIP tag.

my NSFW Twitter (art) is KhawalAfterDark, my ao3 is deathlybijoumme

Current fan projects: Cardassian and Hebitian world building, which I publish on ao3 and occasionally post snippets of on here in my world building tag. Please ask me about them! It gives me the excuse to talk and odds are you’ll ask a question that leads me to clarify my thoughts on something that I hadn’t considered.

Check my 4 part discussion of Egyptian cultural dress (19th century to present) here . The blog where I talk about Egyptian fashion is sartorialegypt on WordPress.

If you feel like whinging at me about Egypt or Copts, donate to Coptic Survivor here instead. Also check out NubiYouth, an organization that helps Nubians in the US and Egypt and has periodic fundraisers, here.

Weyoun says "children were starving on Cardassia Prime" as a result of the Klingon-Cardassian conflict, and he certainly has no reason to tell the truth, but he's correct that Cardassia wouldn't advertise to outsiders if it was true. What's your take?

part of my projecting onto Cardassia is that I think the Union maintains control (barely) over the population with food subsidies. Other characters reference starvation and food insecurity as children so I think it's a policy instituted recentlyish (I think the Occupation was part of a big social and political shift in the Union, and the subsidies were instituted during this or were greatly strengthened). If you like betacanon it's implied Cardassia was a greener planet that has suffered mass desertification, possibly relatively recently, and Cardassians evolved to that climate, not their current one.

However even with these food subsidies- they're VERY subject to pressure and change, even IRL without massive wars. Cardassians would not advertise it, but given that the Klingon-Cardassian war was one of them being conquered (which is different to its conflicts with the Federation and Bajor), I can absolutely see heavily agricultural planets being taken first as a tactic. This would create food shortages across the Union, even for subsided goods- which are usually items that are dietary staples and very commonly used, thus probably being produced across the geography of a nation.

And if you think that Cardassians like big families... well that certainly doesn't help.

oh and also- directly before the war was a shift in government. The Detapa council and dissenters had overthrown the military lead government, that’s part of the justification the Klingon Empire was using because they suspected some council members were changelings. A new government would have a harder time managing supply lines even it was using the same extant policies.

For reference it's specifically a projection based on what I know about the Egyptian bread subsidy People like the complain that Cardassia makes no sense sometimes because they claim to be efficient but these are problems Babes that's propaganda. They're not as efficient as they claim
